Eligibility

Who can access this service?

This service is suitable for adults who:

  • Have a BMI of 30 or above; or a BMI of 27–29.9 with at least one weight-related health condition — such as high blood pressure, raised cholesterol or triglycerides (dyslipidaemia), pre-diabetes, obstructive sleep apnoea, cardiovascular disease, polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), knee or hip osteoarthritis, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD/NASH), or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)
  • Are aged 18 to 84 years old (inclusive)
  • Are not currently pregnant, breastfeeding, or planning to become pregnant in the near future
  • Do not have a diagnosis of type 1 or type 2 diabetes — patients with diabetes should speak to their GP about appropriate treatment pathways, as this service is not suitable for those with a current diabetes diagnosis
  • Do not have a personal or family history of thyroid cancer, pancreatitis, or Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia syndrome type 2 (MEN 2)
  • Do not have symptomatic gallstone disease or active gallbladder disease (a history of gallbladder removal more than 3 months ago may still be considered — your pharmacist will assess)
  • Are not currently using other prescription weight management products
  • Are committed to making lifestyle changes — including following a reduced-calorie diet and increasing physical activity — alongside any treatment

This list covers the main eligibility criteria, but it is not exhaustive. Our pharmacist will conduct a full medical history review at your consultation, including checking current medications, kidney and liver function history, and any other conditions that may affect suitability. Not sure if you qualify? Come in or call us — we'll assess your eligibility confidentially at no obligation.

Your safety is our priority

Prescription weight management treatments are prescription-only medicines (POMs), they can only be prescribed following a thorough clinical assessment by a qualified prescriber. At Corby Pharmacy, our prescribing pharmacist will review your full medical history and current medications before any treatment is recommended.

All treatments provided through our service are UK-licensed, obtained from regulated UK supply chains, and supplied from our GPhC-registered pharmacy. We do not supply unlicensed, counterfeit, or compounded products.

If treatment is not suitable for you, we will explain why and discuss alternative support options. Your health always comes first.

Common questions

Frequently asked questions

No, you can self-refer directly. Simply book a consultation with us and our pharmacist will carry out all the necessary checks. You do not need to see your GP first. However, we may recommend you speak to your GP if we identify any conditions that require further investigation.
Our pharmacist can prescribe clinically appropriate, UK-licensed prescription weight management treatments where these are suitable for you. The specific treatment options available will be discussed privately during your consultation — we are unable to name or promote specific prescription medicines on this page, as these are regulated prescription-only medicines (POMs). Your pharmacist will explain all options, their benefits, and any risks in full at your appointment.
BMI (Body Mass Index) is a measure of body weight relative to height. For prescription weight management treatment, you generally need a BMI of 30 or above; or a BMI of 27–29.9 if you also have at least one weight-related health condition such as high blood pressure, raised cholesterol, pre-diabetes, obstructive sleep apnoea, PCOS, or cardiovascular disease (among others — your pharmacist will advise). Lower BMI thresholds may apply for people from certain South Asian, Chinese, or other minority ethnic backgrounds. Please note: a diagnosis of type 1 or type 2 diabetes is an exclusion criterion for this service — patients with diabetes should speak to their GP. Our pharmacist will calculate your BMI and discuss your full eligibility at your consultation.
Like all medicines, prescription weight management treatments can have side effects. Common ones include nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, and constipation, particularly when starting treatment. These often settle within a few weeks. Less common but more serious risks exist, which your pharmacist will explain in full during your consultation. We will only recommend treatment if the potential benefits outweigh the risks for your individual circumstances.
Our service is led by a face-to-face pharmacist prescriber in our GPhC-registered pharmacy in Corby. All medication is sourced from regulated UK pharmaceutical supply chains. We do not supply unlicensed, compounded, or counterfeit products. Unlike some online services, you get in-person clinical assessment, ongoing face-to-face support, and the ability to ask questions at every stage. The MHRA has warned the public against purchasing weight management medication from unregulated online sources.
This varies from person to person and depends on your goals, your response to treatment, and your overall health. Prescription weight management treatment is typically used for at least 6–12 months alongside sustained lifestyle changes. Your pharmacist will review your progress regularly and discuss how long treatment remains appropriate for you.
Yes. Your consultation takes place in our private consultation room and all information you share is treated in strict confidence. This is a private service, so information is not routinely shared with your GP, although we may recommend that you inform your GP, particularly if you have other health conditions or take regular medications.
